Lapidary and Jewelry

All of our gem mining buckets contain facet and cabochon grade gemstone rough. After completing your bucket, our friendly staff will sort out your rough gemstones and give you an educational description of what each type of gemstone is.

If you would like to have any of your rough gemstones cut we can advise you as to which of your gemstones would be the best candidates. Pricing for lapidary (gemstone cutting) work is a labor-based flat fee that varies based upon the type of gemstone being cut. See the table below for detailed information on the cost of having your rough gemstones cut. We cut the biggest, best gemstone possible out of your rough gemstone. We try to cut around any major flaws in your rough gemstone, so that the resulting polished gemstone will have the highest per-carat value possible. Our expert lapidary artists will cut your precious gemstones so that they are worth more than the labor cost that you incur in having them cut. Having your gemstones cut by us is a great way to get excellent jewelry quality stones for a fraction of the cost that you would pay for equivelant stones at a retail jewelry store. Your finished gemstones will have the added sentimental value of being stones that you mined yourself!

Foggy Mountain also has expert jewelers on staff to set your gemstones after they are cut. The employee sorting your rough gemstones will gladly help you pick out the perfect piece of jewelry for your cut gemstone to be set in. You can have your gemstone cut to fit a specific setting or you can have them set by us at a later date. We cut all of our gemstones in standard calibrated dimensions so that they can be set by us or by a jeweler of your preference with ease! We offer a large variety of jewelry settings in Sterling Silver, 14 karat Yellow Gold and 14 karat White Gold. Due to the large variety of settings offered and the ever-changing nature of precious metal prices, we have to price each setting on the spot based upon the current metal prices. All of our jewelry setting prices are whole-sale prices that are very inexpensive in contrast to the typical pricing structure of a retail jewelry store.

If you have any questions about having your rough gemstones cut and set into jewelry, feel free to send us a message through the form on our Contact page. We are glad to assist you in any way that we can!
